Polyurethane Automotive Bushings

Automotive Bushings

Custom PU Auto Bushing Manufacturer

Rubber suspension bushings crack, swell, and go soft — often within 30,000–50,000 miles under real road conditions. When that happens, alignment drifts, steering gets vague, and tire wear accelerates.

Flexiparts manufactures custom polyurethane automotive bushings that hold their geometry under load, resist oil and road chemicals, and outlast OE rubber in high-stress suspension environments.

We supply OEM manufacturers and aftermarket brands. Send us a drawing or sample — we’ll get you a quote.

What We Make

Every bushing we produce is built to your specification — geometry, durometer, bonding method, and grease groove configuration. No catalog limitations. Common automotive applications we manufacture for:

Application What We Customize
Suspension control arm bushings OD/ID, wall thickness, flange or no flange
Sway bar bushings Split or solid, sleeve material, clamp compatibility
Strut rod & track bar bushings Length, shoulder geometry, dual-shear configs
Body mount bushings Durometer tuning for NVH targets
Engine & transmission mounts Ester or ether base, bonded or press-fit
Leaf spring eye bushings Heavy-wall, oversized ID for truck/van fitments
Panhard rod & Watts link bushings Tight-tolerance ID for geometry-critical installs

Custom sizes, flanged or sleeved designs, grease grooves on request.

Automotive Bushings Material Options

We cast polyurethane bushings in multiple formulations, selected by application:

  • Shore 70A–80A — Street use. Absorbs vibration, reduces NVH. Closest performance to rubber, with significantly better oil and chemical resistance.
  • Shore 85A–90A — Performance street / light track. The standard for most suspension upgrades — better handling feel, maintains alignment geometry under hard cornering.
  • Shore 93A–95A — Race and heavy-duty. Maximum stiffness for pivot points, torque arms, and traction bars. Not recommended for suspension compliance joints.
  • Ester-based PU — Higher abrasion and oil resistance. Use where bushings contact grease, hydraulic fluid, or road chemicals regularly.
  • Ether-based PU — Better hydrolysis resistance. Preferred for high-humidity environments, underbody exposure, and marine/coastal vehicle applications.

We can also produce metal-bonded bushings with sandblasted and primed steel or aluminum inserts, cast directly into the urethane for zero-slip bonding.

Why Polyurethane Over Rubber Automotive Bushings

  • Longer Service Life: PU resists abrasion, cracking, and chemical degradation that breaks down rubber over time. In gritty or harsh environments, polyurethane typically outlasts rubber 3–5x.
  • Holds Alignment Geometry: Rubber deflects under load and loses shape over time. Polyurethane maintains its dimensions, which means wheel alignment stays consistent and tire wear stays predictable.
  • Oil and Chemical Resistance: Road salt, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and road grime attack rubber. Polyurethane is largely unaffected by exposure to these fluids.
  • Tunable Hardness: Unlike rubber, polyurethane durometer can be dialed in precisely — different stiffness for the same geometry, depending on whether the application needs vibration absorption or rigid load transfer.
  • No Flat-Spotting: Polyurethane doesn’t develop compression set the way rubber does, so bushings keep rotating freely rather than sticking and thumping.

Custom Manufacturing Capabilities

  • Casting process: Allows tight-tolerance, small-to-medium run production without expensive injection tooling
  • Mold options: Aluminum or steel tooling; we design and machine molds in-house
  • Tolerances: ±0.2mm on cast ID/OD for most bushing geometries; tighter tolerances available on machined features
  • Durometer range: 40A to 95A
  • Color options: Black, red, yellow, blue, natural amber — useful for hardness identification or brand specification
  • Grease groove machining: Internal reservoir grooves for reduced squeaking and extended lubrication intervals
  • Volume: Prototype quantities to high-volume production runs
