Standard rubber grommets lock into a panel through a groove that grips both faces of the material. Tapered rubber grommets work differently. Their tapered body compresses through the mounting hole and expands on the opposite side, creating secure retention without a locking groove or rear access.

This design is ideal when the back of the panel cannot be reached because of enclosed housings, internal components, or assembly sequence restrictions.
